The 15-year-old boy stabbed to death near Robson Square in downtown Vancouver has been identified as Sened Mussie Gebreamlak Woldai, of Surrey.A 17-year-old suspect is in custody, however his identity has not been released due to his age.Woldai was identified by his family, who shared the news of his passing in a SelamFundMe page."With deep sorrow, we share the heartbreaking loss of our beloved son, Sened Mussie Gebreamlak Woldai, born on February 1, 2010, and tragically passed away on July 20, 2025," his parents, Mussie Gebreamlak Woldai & Yorsaelm Okubazghi Gebrihiwet, wrote. "Sened was a kind, joyful, and compassionate boy whose bright smile touched many lives."They explained that the goal was to lay Woldai to rest "close to extended family" in Eritrea, adding that funds raised would "help cover funeral and travel expenses.""Your prayers, donations, and shares mean so much during this painful time," they concluded.As of Thursday, over $1,000 of the $25,000 goal has been raised.According to the Vancouver Police Department, the suspect — originally from Surrey — was taken into custody around 11 p.m. Monday night after turning himself in at the VPD patrol office near Kingsway and Nanaimo St.No charges have been laid..The incident took place shortly before 11:40 p.m. on Saturday next to the Vancouver Law Courts at Smithe St. and Hornby St. A passerby noticed a boy suffering from stab wounds and called 911. When first responders arrived on scene, they provided emergency first aid and transported him to hospital.
