Parks Canada says most of Jasper National Park has reopened following the devastating 2024 wildfire, but three well-known sites remain closed due to ongoing recovery work.As of Thursday, Cavell Road, Maligne Canyon, and the Valley of the Five Lakes are still off-limits while officials carry out safety assessments and repairs. Parks Canada says these closures will remain in place until further notice.Despite these remaining restrictions, visitors can enjoy a wide range of activities throughout the rest of the park, including hiking, biking, canoeing, and wildlife viewing. Officials say scenic lookouts now offer views of the ecological regeneration taking place in burned areas..Recovery in the closed sections involves complex work such as hazardous tree removal, slope stability assessments, and rebuilding infrastructure. Parks Canada emphasized the need to meet safety standards for roadways and trails, especially in areas with significant elevation or structural damage.Technical experts and engineers are involved in the restoration process, and Parks Canada says it will work with stakeholders as progress continues. To help visitors plan their trips, an online “What’s Open” map provides real-time updates on trail and facility availability. Parks Canada also encourages travelers to stop at the Jasper National Park Information Centre for recommendations and trip planning support.
