Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives, in their English-language platform released Tuesday, omitted a promise to prohibit discriminatory hiring practices in universities and federal agencies.
It was, however, included in the French-language platform. Poilievre was asked about the issue in March in French while campaigning in Quebec, where he said that DEI (diversity, equity, inclusion) doesn’t belong in universities, and they should be based on merit instead.
The Conservatives would "put an end to the imposition of woke ideology in the federal civil service and in the allocation of federal funds for university research,” said Poilievre at the time.
The platform, as of Wednesday afternoon, was updated to include the same statements about the crackdown on woke ideology in English.
Poilievre’s press team told the CBC the English-language omission was a “publishing oversight.”
"The commitment was originally contained in the original Quebec platform in both French and English. The platform has been updated to reflect our policy," said spokesman Simon Jefferies.
Notably, the updated version of the platform includes the “anti-woke ideology” promise under the Quebec platform.
“A Conservative government will put an end to the imposition of the woke ideology in the federal public service and in the allocation of federal funds for university research,” states the Conservative platform.
