Toronto police chief James Ramer said Const. Andrew Hong was the service member killed in a shooting in Mississauga, ON. .“This is devastating news for his family and for all members of the Toronto police service and our entire policing community,” said Ramer in a Monday statement. .“We will lean on each other while we work to support Const. Hong’s family, and each other, in our grief.” .Hong was killed and two people were rushed to hospital after Shawn Petry opened fire at a coffee shop in Mississauga where Hong had stopped for a break..The Toronto Sun reported Petry's shooting rampage continued with him travelling to MK Auto Repairs in Milton, ON. He shot three people, and one of them died from his injuries. .The person who was shot dead was MK Auto Repairs owner Shakeel Ashraf. Halton police forensic experts have been combing the garage for clues. .Petry's motive remains unclear. Police said Petry could have shot Ashraf because the suspect was fired by him four months ago. .He had worked at the garage for one month, but it did not start off well. Halton police said the two injured people are in serious condition. .The statement said Hong was a 48-year-old man and had worked for Toronto police for 22 years. He was in Mississauga participating in a joint training exercise with Peel Region and York Region police. .The statement went on to say the details of his murder are being investigated by Peel police. It added Ramer will work with Peel police chief Nish Duraiappah to determine what happened to the officer. .Ramer said preliminary information revealed Hong was shot at close range and died at the scene. .Hong is survived by his wife, two children, and his parents. .“I met with his family in their home this afternoon, along with Jon Reid of the Toronto Police Association, to confirm the death of Const. Hong, who was a husband, a father, and a son,” said Ramer. .“I committed to his family that they will have the full support of the Toronto Police Service every day going forward.”
