US President Donald Trump has said Jimmy Kimmel’s cancellation was due to a “lack of talent.”Appearing at a press conference with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Aylesbury, England, on Thursday, Trump weighed in on the recent news that the late-night talk show host was suspended indefinitely by Disney-owned ABC after remarks Kimmel made on the assassination of Charlie Kirk.“He said a horrible thing about a great gentleman known as Charlie Kirk,” Trump said. “Jimmy Kimmel is not a talented person. He had bad ratings and they should have fired him a long time ago.”During his show’s monologue on Monday, Kimmel stated, “We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and were doing everything they can to score political points from it..Disney's ABC indefinitely suspends Jimmy Kimmel over Charlie Kirk comments."This is not how an adult grieves the murder of somebody he [Trump] called a friend. This is how a 4-year-old mourns a goldfish, okay."Starmer struck a different tone, focusing on the implications for free expression, stating how jarring the whole situation has been.“[It’s been shocking] to everybody who believes in free speech and in democracy,” Starmer said.“It sent shockwaves through the world and I know [Kirk] was a friend of the president’s. I reached out straight away to the president because I understood how impactful the activity was..Trump and Carney, not Poilievre, take heat from conservative voters in post-election poll."We all need to be absolutely clear about that. Whatever our political views, it is shocking and is to be condemned.”Kimmel has yet to speak publicly on the suspension but is reportedly furious about ABC’s decision and is exploring ways to get out of his contract.
