US President-elect Donald Trump has a Christmas Day message for Canadians — it's time to put Wayne Gretzky in charge of the country.
Trump and Gretzky spent Christmas Day together in Mara-a-Largo, the sprawling estate the 45th president calls home in Florida.
"I just left Wayne Gretzky, the "Great One as he is known in Ice Hockey circles," Trump tweeted.
"I said 'Wayne, why don't you run for Prime Minister of Canada, soon to be known as the Governor of Canada — you would win easily, you wouldn't even have to campaign."
Gretzky declined, in a most polite Canadian way, but that wasn't enough for Trump as he encouraged people to start a "draft" campaign movement.
"It would be so much fun to watch," Trump tweeted.
Trump has spent a month ridiculing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and musing Canada could become the 51st state.
