The US Senate on Thursday voted its approval for Kash Patel as the new director of the FBI, President Donald Trump’s number one choice for the top job.

After scoring approval by a tight 51-49 vote, Patel, former attorney for the justice department and congressional staffer, was approved for a 10-year term.

The confirmation of Patel as FBI director comes on the heels of Trump’s other top choices landing key roles in his administration: Tulsi Gabbard has been confirmed as director of national intelligence and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as secretary of health and human services.

Patel sat through a grueling five-hour hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee in January, answering for his support of Americans who went to the Capitol on January 6, 2021.

Democrats wanted him back in the ringer for another round, but Committee Chair Chuck Grassley put his foot down and said that would be "unnecessary," per USA Today.
