Two teenagers have been charged in connection with a series of cannabis store robberies that took place in Calgary in January and February.

The first incident occurred on Thursday, Jan. 9, at approximately 9:40 p.m., when three suspects entered Four20 at 418 16 Ave. N.W. Posing as customers, they asked an employee to open a display case. Once the case was open, the suspects pushed the employee, grabbed an unknown quantity of products, and fled the store.

On Sunday, Feb. 9, at approximately 10:10 p.m., three suspects believed to be the same individuals entered Four20 at 425 Aviation Rd. N.E. Again, they asked to see products. This time, after the employee opened the display, they physically assaulted and restrained the worker before fleeing with stolen merchandise.

A third incident took place on Sunday, Feb. 23, at approximately 10:05 p.m. at Highland Buds, located at 5010 4 St. N.E. The suspects went behind the counter to access products, and when an employee attempted to intervene, they were physically assaulted. The suspects then escaped with more stolen goods.

Following an investigation by the Calgary Police Service Robbery Unit, authorities identified the same group as being responsible for all three robberies. Search warrants were executed on Wednesday, March 19, at three residences in Greenview, Huntington Hills, and Beddington, as well as on two vehicles connected to the crimes. Officers seized key evidence, including three cellphones and clothing believed to have been used during the robberies.

Three male youths, aged 14, 16, and 17, were arrested. The 16-year-old was charged with three counts of robbery and one count of disguise with intent, while the 17-year-old faces three counts of robbery. Both are scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, April 16. The 14-year-old was released as investigators continue to analyze evidence.

Due to the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the names of the accused cannot be disclosed.
