A Coquitlam RCMP officer is dead and another one is injured after a shooting in the City Centre neighbourhood. .Tri-City News reported Friday the incident happened at around 11 a.m. in a building at Pinetree Way and Glen Drive while a search warrant was being executed..Coquitlam RCMP have advised the public to avoid the area as it is an “active crime scene.” Traffic is closed along Pinetree and Glen. .Pedestrians told media on site they heard a number of shots fired and saw a person bleeding being carried out on a stretcher. .A Coquitlam business owner called it “worse than LA.”.British Columbia Premier David Eby confirmed there was a critical incident happening in Coquitlam. .“There is no further threat to public safety,” said Eby..BC RCMP has notified the Independent Investigations of BC (IIOBC) because of the officer's death and the suspect and other officers being injured. .Prior to the shooting, the officers became engaged in an altercation with a man, which resulted in a few of them being injured and the man being shot. Emergency Medical Services transferred all injured people to hospital, but one of them was shot and succumbed to his injuries. .The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has been deployed and will assume control of the investigation. The IIOBC will investigate the actions of police at the same time.
