Today I was removed by police from Mark Carney's Liberal leadership event in Edmonton after politely standing my ground against Calgary Liberal MP George Chahal and other campaign henchmen.

Liberal bystanders mocked, while I conducted myself with dignity and respect.

I arrived early and politely introduced myself to Chahal — planning to do my job.

Former chief of staff to Alison Redford and Jyoti Gondek, and current Liberal operative Stephen Carter was front and centre of the incident.

While being escorted out the building by Edmonton police, I was bullied in a doorway by Chahal, who was storming out of the room. It would have been a physical interaction had I not quickly pressed up against the doorframe to avoid contact.

Disgusting behaviour from an elected official who endorses Carney.

All mainstream media outlets, CBC, Global News and others were allowed into the media event. Independent outlets True North and Counter Signal were also banned.

There's a lot to say about this incident. Video speaks louder than words.

What stands out is that Mark Carney and his supporters don't want to answer tough questions from the Western Standard. They want softball questions and softball answers to avoid accountability.

The most disturbing part of the incident was being mocked by Liberal supporters, who were sitting on a bench inches away while I was being physically blocked from entering the conference.

I explained more than once that I am an accredited reporter and member of the Alberta Legislature press gallery. I demanded to participate while retaining my composure.

If this situation is an indication — it can be assumed Mark Carney is no different from Justin Trudeau when it comes to freedom of the press, which is the bedrock of Western democracy.
