An extreme case of road rage has taken place in Northern Ontario, leading to one arrest.
A terrified James Turner called 911 from behind the wheel of his Honda Accord as the incident unfolded on Highway 11 near Temiskaming Shores on December 30.
"I'm in danger. I'm in danger. I need a cop," said Turner of being rammed and chased by a white Toyota RAV4.
The 911 operator sounded half asleep and lethargic as Turner begged for police intervention.
"I need help right now," he said. "I'm not used to getting chased. He's gonna try to kill me. I'm not sure why."
Police laid down a spike belt and arrested the RAV4 driver.
There's an indication from various sources that road rage incidents are not uncommon in Northern Ontario, with specific reports and public discussions highlighting their occurrence in the region.
A Leger survey conducted on behalf of Rates.ca in 2024 showed that 83% of Canadian drivers had witnessed road rage incidents in the last year, up by 5% from 2022.
However, only 56% admitted to being involved.
