Canadian Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre has baffled a Toronto CP24 news anchor when asked if his government would recognize more than two genders.

Backdrop for the conversation is sweeping changes to gender policy in the U.S. President Trump has announced, through an executive order, his administration will only recognize men and women.

"Do you have any other genders that you'd like to name?" said Poilievre.

CP24 asked if Poilievre would be in "lockstep" with Trump on gender issues.

"Well, I'm not aware of any other genders than men and women. I mean, if you have any others you want me to consider, you're welcome to tell me right now."

CP24 responded, "Well, there's, well, there's, personally, I am a man. I am a cis man. There are people who say they're gender neutral. There are trans people. Is that something that you would recognize here?"

Poilievre responded, "I'm only aware of two, but if you come up with another list, then you're welcome to do that, but I'm aware of two.

"And as far as I'm concerned, we should have a government that just minds its own damn business and leaves people alone."
