Police in Saanich, BC have launched an investigation into a viral video that showed a senior punching a teen who was said to have been throwing food at other customers.Authorities have yet to determine whether the actions of either person meet the threshold for criminality..The video, shot by local resident Isaac Campbell on April 27, does not show what led up to the altercation, only the ensuing beatdown. From his spot in line, Campbell captured the elderly man landing numerous punches as the teen boy sat with three girls at a nearby table. A second man stepped in to try and de-escalate the situation, at which point a third walked over and slapped the boy in the face."Don't throw food at an old man's wife in Tim Horton's," Campbell's caption reads. In an interview with CHEK News, Campbell confirmed that the boy was throwing food at customers, including him."I had a chocolate bar whipped at my head," he said. "He was just throwin' food everywhere."The boy then allegedly hit an older woman, prompting her husband to walk over and take matters into his own hands."The old man was walkin' out, linked arms with his wife," he added. "It was a pretty sick moment for the two."While many online applauded the man's actions, SPD Insp. Damian Kowalewich cautioned against emulating his behaviour."The Saanich Police do not condone anybody taking matters into their own hands," he said. "We know the close proximity of that coffee shop to our police station. We always encourage folks to call us."
