As Publisher of the Western Standard, I shrink in my chair a bit when I receive emails from members in B.C., Saskatchewan, or Manitoba asking why we aren’t producing more content for their provinces. They aren’t wrong. We are the “Western Standard” after all, but all too often, we publish like we are the “Alberta+ Standard”. That ends now..I’m proud to announce today our big B.C. expansion with the addition of two new positions..Mike D’Amour will serve as the new Western Standard British Columbia Bureau Chief. He comes to us from a long career with Sun Media with a focus on crime. He will bring his sense of professionalism to our new B.C. Bureau, ensuring that British Columbians have a trusted source of news that isn’t bought and paid for by the federal government..Nathan Giede will join as our B.C. Political Columnist and Host of Mountain Standard Time. Raised in his hometown of Prince George, Nathan has a background in local media writing about politics and First Nations issues in the Prince George Citizen. He will bring a unique and largely unheard voice to his B.C. political column, and to his new show running every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9:00-11:00 am PST..This is a big step for us as the Western Standard enters its second full year of operations. We are determined to make the Western Standard truly Western..For our members in Saskatchewan and Manitoba, have no worry. We are working on plans in your provinces as well. Big plans are coming for you as well soon..Derek Fildebrandt is the Publisher, President & CEO of Western Standard New Media Corp.
