The Wildrose Independence Party (WIPA) is slamming Premier Jason Kenney’s COVID-19 lockdown plan as “reprehensible.

“Albertans have Constitutionally-protected rights, and Kenney has trampled them in a way that is completely unacceptable. Rights can not be discarded due to the incompetence of the government,” said WIPA leader Paul Hinman.

On Tuesday, Kenney announced another sweeping lockdown in the province in a bid to stop the spiralling figures of COVID-19 cases and deaths.

It effectively cancelled Christmas with all home and outdoor gatherings banned.

Hinman said Kenney has spent billions or dollars and had a lot of time to prepare for the pandemic, without success.

“Premier Kenney acknowledged that he is causing massive harm that is long-lasting and yet he’s run out of ideas and is completely throwing in the towel to the fear mongering of the lockdown enthusiast NDP,” Hinman said.

“If Albertans wanted clueless NDP policies that will strip our freedoms and kill our economy, they would have voted for it.”

Hinman added lockdowns have caused numerous social problems like increased suicides and drug abuse.

“Now we face an unbelievable array of authoritarian laws and regulations that will add to the damage and be held over the heads of every Albertan for the foreseeable future,” Hinman said.

“This is utterly shameful.”

Hinman was appointed interim leader of the Wildrose Independence Party in June 2020 after a merger of the Freedom Conservative Party and Wexit Alberta.
