An 18-year-old Winnipeg woman is facing multiple charges after border officers at Calgary International Airport intercepted a suitcase allegedly containing 30 kg of methamphetamine bound for Japan.The incident occurred on June 23, when Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers conducting outbound screening flagged a piece of luggage headed for Narita. Upon inspection, officers found the meth hidden inside. The traveler had already boarded the plane but was arrested and removed from the aircraft without incident.The Integrated Border Enforcement Team (IBET) in Alberta — which includes the RCMP, CBSA, and Calgary police — launched a criminal investigation..Mariane Lee is now charged with possession for the purpose of exporting, possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, and attempting to export prohibited goods.Lee is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Calgary on Monday.Officials say the seizure highlights the strength of interagency collaboration in preventing drug trafficking.
