Ontario Premier Doug Ford accused Canada of becoming a "lawless society" after four masked suspects attempted to steal a vehicle from his Etobicoke home early Tuesday morning.Police arrested all four suspects following the incident at Ford's residence near Lawrence Avenue West and Royal York Road around 12:30 am EST.Toronto Police Service officers spotted the masked suspects in a vehicle approaching Ford's driveway. When officers stopped the vehicle, one suspect fled on foot but was quickly located nearby. Police found a car key programming device and a programmable master key inside the suspects vehicle. The four males charged include two 23-year-olds from Toronto and two minors aged 16 and 17. .All face charges of possessing an electronic device for motor vehicle theft and appeared in court today.Ford initially credited his Ontario Provincial Police detail with stopping the theft attempt. However, Toronto police confirmed their officers responded to the scene, not the OPP."Four thugs come racing down my street, masks on, ready to take the car out of the driveway," said Ford at a press conference this morning. "Surprise, surprise ... the two police cars are there, the chase is on."The premier believes the suspects may have been targeting his brother Randy's car parked in the driveway overnight. .They could also have been after Ford's pickup truck.Ford used the incident to criticize Canada's bail system during his remarks. He expressed frustration that the suspects would likely be released quickly."Just imagine all of the unfortunate people who don't have security there at their house," said Ford. "With masks on. They have all the tools ready to break in and everything. And guess what's going to happen? They're going to be back out. Why don’t you guys come over for a barbecue tonight?"The premier has lived in Etobicoke his entire life and represented the riding of Etobicoke North in the Ontario Legislative Assembly since 2018.."I am sick and tired of the weak justice system that we have," said Ford."They have to get a backbone, and we need to start throwing these people in jail. This is turning into a lawless society."The attempted theft happened the same night Toronto police pursued multiple suspects in an alleged armed carjacking in North York. That chase ended when one suspect fell from the Gardiner Expressway onto Lakeshore Road below and was hospitalized with serious injuries. The Special Investigations Unit is examining the North York incident, which involved suspects fleeing the Shops of Don Mills in a Rolls Royce and BMW.
