In December 14th’s edition of the Globe and Mail, Vancouver writer and educator, Eleanor Boyle suggested what’s really needed to fight the ‘climate emergency’ is severe rationing, because we can’t be trusted to make the appropriate sacrifices ourselves..This followed on the heels of a Greta Thunberg speech in Turin Italy onDecember 13th where she announced to a cheering crowd, that if world leaders didn’t do as she told them, she’d see them lined up against a wall (presumably to face a firing squad)..This is a preview of what’s to come for 2020 – and the totalitarian spirit possessing it – if the climate apocalyptists have their way..Boyle is not the first to call for WWII like rationing in the face of global warming, er, climate change as she writes, “given the terrible consequences, we are in a war to save ourselves.”.Therefore, the government will have no choice but to limit our meat and dairy intake (but hey have all the insects you want). Limit how much gas we are allowed to use, and of course, travel must be strictly controlled. I do not exaggerate; these are her suggestions..She adds that sin taxes are not enough to curb our climate sins, as the wealthy, she says, will simply pay the price to fly to Hawaii for vacation and eat Kobe beef. Only a government mandated carbon allowance will save us from, well, the weather..You might dismiss Boyle as a left coast tree-hugger, but she was writing in Canada’s oldest national newspaper, now massively subsidized by federal tax dollars. Her thinking is is not that far removed from our federal government’s..Boyle also gives a nod to the Green New Deal proposals in the US, calling for a radical green-socialist command economy, all in the name of the weather..The leading apocalyptists already admit that fighting climate change isn’t just about the environment; it’s about fighting the ‘patriarchy’ and capitalism.. In fact, Riley Whitlum, the owner of the boat that returned Thunberg to the old country, made his fortune, so to speak, working in the oil and gas industry..He worked on offshore gas drilling rigs in Australia, which allowed him to save enough money to travel to Italy and buy his first sailboat. He and his girlfriend, Elayna then became Youtube stars documenting their sailing adventures..This is of little concern to world leaders like Trudeau or royalty, like Prince Charles as they jet around the world. They can’t be expected to ration themselves and eat bugs to survive. That’s for everyone else..What the acolytes of Thunberg don’t realize, is they won’t be in the Trudeau and Prince Charles circle of elites, who will still live in luxury. Most of humanity – by necessity in their worldview – will be relegated to the great masses, which would quickly see the economic miracle lifting billions out of poverty rolled back..Let’s hope that as we embark on a new year, that even if sanity cannot prevail, that at least those who previously claimed SUVs were responsible for the weather, finally decide they’d rather have a parka and cheeseburger than a sackcloth and boiled crickets.
