The people of Saskatchewan – tied like hostages to chairs, thought the ropes were loosening. But just as they believed they might break free, the provincial government – on the advice of unelected medical bureaucrats – came back with duct tape to tie us even tighter. .Two weeks ago, the province announced that households could soon have up to ten people in them. Churches could have up to 150 people or one-third capacity, whichever was lower – not the paltry 30 they had before. That wasn’t spectacular, but if you’ve had three months of -30 weather, -10 feels like summer. Alas, it was all for not..By the advice of Dr. Saqib Shahab and the apparent approval of Premier Moe, most public venues in the Regina area will close from March 28 until April 5. Most households can’t have anyone over, although those who live alone can “meet with a household of fewer than five people.”.Travel outside the city isn’t recommended unless “absolutely necessary.” The province’s dictates have made travel more necessary than ever to maintain one’s sanity..Why was this done? The province says that Regina’s active cases have increased 78% in the past month. The city has 755 of Saskatchewan’s 1,472 active cases of conventional COVID-19, plus 763 of the province’s 891 cases of ‘Variants of Concern’. Twenty-six Saskatchewan residents are in intensive care, but the province reported just one new death of someone who tested positive..While every life is important, it would be unwarranted and impractical to destroy the lives and livelihoods of 1.1 million people for every condition that contributed to one death per day and left 26 in hospital. We are still living under these draconian restrictions because governments cannot admit that their the initial reactions one year ago were based on faulty models. .In all, 419 Saskatchewan residents who tested positive for COVID-19 died with it, while at least 30,100 have “recovered” although many of them were never actually sick to begin with. Even these death totals may be deceptively high. In the U.S., the CDC reported that only 6% of reported COVID deaths were due to the virus alone. The same estimate in Saskatchewan would translate to a total of 25 deaths..Prior to 2019, an average of 140 Saskatchewan people died in motor vehicle accidents each year. Should we ban cars to save them? Or would it lead indirectly to even more deaths, let alone massive social and economic damage?.Everything we do in life is a trade-off. Canadian researcher Dr. Ari Joffe found that lockdown measures led to 10-times more harm than good. The collateral damage of addiction, strife, violence, unemployment, and other factors won’t make the nightly news, but it is real. Joffe found out the fatality rate for SARS-CoV-2 infections for those under age 70 is just 0.05%..General Patton once quipped that “Fear kills more people than death.” Watch the nightly news and you’re sure to see COVID-19 stats and substantial time on the virus. What few people realize is how dubious those statistics might be..A study printed in the Oxford Academic found only 1,941 SARS-CoV-2 isolates among 3,790 positive PCR tests. The team of researchers found that at a cycle threshold of 25, the test was 70% reliable. This figure dropped to just 20% at 30 cycles, and was just 3% at 35 cycles. That meant 97% of results were false at the threshold used “in most laboratories in the USA and Europe.”.Even inventor Kary Mullis warned his PCR test could be manipulated before he died in August of 2019..“The PCR, if you do it well, you can find almost anything in anybody,” Mullis once said in a public address. “[Y]ou can amplify one single molecule up to something you can really measure… So that could be thought of as a misuse of it.”.Mullis made more comments relevant to our time in an interview . “These guys like Fauci get up and start talking and he doesn’t know anything really about anything and I would say that to his face. Nothing,” Mullis said. “Most of those guys up there on the top…have a personal kind of agenda. They make up their own rules as they go; they change them when they want to…Tony Fauci does not mind going on television…and lie directly into the camera.”.Last November, a Portugese court determined no asymptomatic person who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 should be restricted whatsoever. The Lisbon judges concluded, “there is no scientific data to suggest that low levels of viral RNA by RT-PCR equate to infection, unless the presence of infectious viral particles has been confirmed by laboratory culture methods.”.The judges also cited the words of Gian Luigi Gatta, a professor of criminal law at Italy’s Università degli Studi di Milano. He said “the containment of the spread of COVID-19…can never harm the right to freedom and security and, ultimately, the absolute right to human dignity.”.Premier Moe, are you listening?.Lee Harding is the Saskatchewan Political Columnist for the Western Standard
