But while the Government of Quebec is to be commended for grasping the nettle at all, more could have been done.After 18 months of consultations, the Government of Quebec released the Quebec Committee of Sages Report at the end of May. It took issue with what it described as several areas (of gender ideology) lacking evidence or medical reasoning. To the dismay of gender ideology promoters, it also called for Quebec's National Institute of Excellence in Health and Social Services (INESSS) to take a harder look at transgender claims, to evaluate evidence, and to meanwhile take a cautious approach — although it stopped short of placing firm restrictions on transgender medicine. It is therefore less than a fill-throated rejection of transgender ideology. .Nevertheless, the report echoes the CASS Final Report published by England’s National Health Service in 2022. This had been commissioned in 2020 after officials noted a 4,000% increase in children seeking sex changes in 2018. The alarm sounded by officials in the UK to study the matter and evaluate policies set in motion a pushback against gender medicine and ideology towards a more evidence-based review across many countries. Across Ireland, Scotland, the USA, and Alberta, we’ve seen new policy changes push back throughout 2024 and 2025 regarding transgender issues involving minors.However, the Canadian Medical Association remains polarized against any dissent, while many jurisdictions are still escalating transgender policies. This, despite a lack of evidence that changing the sex of children, effectively sterilizing children, or interfering in children’s development, would help them. .In this context, the report out of Quebec is a bombshell. It is the first major Canadian health publication to refute the dangerous eugenics industry and its ideology, in a comprehensive evidence-based review. Predictably, the report has been either smeared as hateful, or blacked-out entirely by establishment media. Nevertheless, the Quebec report does not go far enough.In March 2024 The WPATH Files were released by Mia Hughes, director of Genspec Canada and senior fellow at the Macdonald-Laurier Institute. The 241 pages reveal damning leaked internal communications of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH.) The leaks go far beyond cultural criticism, exposing cover ups, frauds, corruption, abuse, manipulations, and pushing dangerous and experimental practices. While Canada remains behind the UK and the USA in fighting back against extreme identity politics and radical policies, the Quebec report appears to be deaf to already publicly knowable and actually clear revelations on the topic.After the WPATH leaks, why does this controversial industry deserve to exist at all?Morrigan Johnson is an independent journalist based in Calgary.
