Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is getting a lot of mileage out of Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland’s verbal abuse incident in Grande Prairie, AB..You would think she'd been physically beaten up the way he's going on. I'm waiting for Trudeau to designate any verbal abuse against a sitting MP as a specially anointed hate crime deserving of extra punishment because that’s exactly where his mind goes..The media is loving this incident and pretending, of course, the incident is emblematic of Albertans. You know, those damned conservatives who populate the province... Neanderthals incapable of engaging in civilized political discourse, but quick to name call and threaten these cultured politicians from the East..Well, Freeland froze peoples’ bank accounts for donating to the Freedom Convoy. And, when you play dirty in politics you’ve got to expect some people aren’t going to like it..So seriously, where was the media’s outrage when Peoples Party of Canada leader Maxime Bernier was attacked with an egg by a political enemy last year? The mainstream media found it extremely funny and wondered why Bernier wasn’t laughing, too. How would some of these pundits enjoy the experience as they pontificated on the evils of conservative voters?.As Dean Skoreyko reminded us in a tweet, “Bernier was egged last year. The media thought it hilarious.”.Going to get ugly replied, “Bernier was literally physically assaulted during the last campaign the same week someone lobbed a handful of pebbles in Trudeau's general direction. The Canadian media were apoplectic about the latter and couldn't care less about the former. The media's selective outrage.”.Yes, we never heard the end of how Trudeau was targeted with pebbles, but the egg incident was barely reported and certainly not with any disgust..Libertarians and conservatives somehow deserve to be attacked because they espouse opinions that are unpopular — at least to the media. But throw some pebbles at Trudeau or call Freeland a traitor and you’re virtually a terrorist..And how about Trudeau’s hypocrisy in this charade? Here’s the guy who writes off all of his critics as racists — without a shred of evidence — while he’s been performing in blackface as though it were like being an Elvis imitator..He’s the one talking about civility in politics? He’s never practiced civility. He wants to censor you and I on the internet. He wants to brand anything he disagrees with as hate speech and he reacts to protests that he doesn’t like with the Emergencies Act..He wouldn’t even speak with the truckers from the Freedom Convoy yet he took a knee with Black Lives Matter, even though they were responsible for 90% of the violent protests in the US that caused huge financial damage and cost lives..Now he’s introducing another spending spree for the LGBTQ crowd that's sure to introduce more division into the country, while he pretends it is bringing unity. It is identity politics of the worst sort — but more about that tomorrow..We ought not to encourage violence against politicians, but we shouldn’t make it a special crime either. Assault is assault. Rude is rude. I would certainly tell Trudeau to his face he's a hypocrite and has no right to smear his political opponents. But I think he already knows that..And the media needs to stop being cheerleaders for Justin Trudeau and his Liberal government, and start assessing his performance in an objective manner. Yes, that’s tough to do when he’s subsidizing your media agency or paying the entire bill. But that has to stop, too..The state has no place in the newsrooms of the nation. It only contributes a to press that is not free and reporters who have nothing much to say when Maxime Bernier is attacked, but fret for more than a week when Chrystia Freeland is insulted in a Alberta hotel.
