Tuesday’s announcement that the New Democratic Party will prop up the Liberal government until 2025 should come as no surprise to anyone remotely familiar with the voting patterns of the House of Commons. NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh has been an echo of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in all things and is a remarkably similar personality: a wealthy elite who pretends he has some relevance to and association with working men and women, when in fact he would be loathe to rub shoulders the common folk..Yesterday, Trudeau reached the nadir of his nerve and hypocrisy to announce, “Today, on the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, we come together to reject all forms of racism, discrimination, and hatred. While we have made progress with our efforts to fight systemic racism and injustice in Canada and globally, far too many people still face discrimination and hate based on the colour of their skin, their background, or their faith. So today, we reaffirm our commitment to building a world where everyone has an equal opportunity to succeed.”.The Blackface PM has absolutely no shame and no sense of decency. So why not drag the NDP into this charade with him?.Singh was close to Trudeau throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, assiduously reinforcing Liberal government policies and ensuring its survival in a minority position..His decision to endorse Trudeau’s invocation of the Emergencies Act was probably Singh’s weakest and lowest moment as the head of a party in search of an identity and with deep fissures in its caucus between those who see the NDP as the purveyor of far-left woke ideology and socialism and those who still see the party as working-class based..When the NDP formed a coalition government with former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau in 1972, the result was a disaster for leader David Lewis who kept Trudeau in power for two years until he called an election and won another majority government. But at least the NDP still had a reason to exist..The NDP today is so close to the Liberal Party in philosophy and policy that it might just as well send all of its members across the floor to formally join the government ranks. The two parties have almost nothing to argue about..Trudeau pretended Tuesday that this was not the case and spoke in his usual incoherent fashion, stating much that means nothing..“We’re different political parties. We stand for different things where we have common goals. We cannot let our differences stand in the way of delivering what Canadians deserve,” he said..Actually Canadians deserve a whole lot better than this and it is precisely because there are no differences between the Liberals and the NDP that Trudeau went on to say that the government would be moving forward with a socialist agenda of dental care, child child, pharmacare, government housing, and some scheme to expand access to voting — code for making it easier for people to vote without ID..This union from hell could well result in the demise of the NDP as it becomes apparent that the party has become redundant and mere cheerleaders for the Liberal Party. This is not the way former Prime Minister Stephen Harper envisioned history progressing when he imagined a future without the Liberal Party and the NDP filling the left-wing need. The only way for the NDP to survive is for some of its caucus members to revolt and demand that the party be different than the Liberals and articulate exactly what that means. During the Emergencies Act debate in the House, the anger of some New Democrats at being forced to support Trudeau’s oppression was palpable and you knew Singh was only barely maintaining caucus unity and I would like to have heard the remonstrances from some of his members over this deal with the Libs..Conservative Interim leader Candice Bergen has chosen to call the Liberal/NDP alliance as a “power grab,” saying it was “a backroom deal that would see Justin Trudeau get the majority power that he tried desperately to get last fall in the last election, but failed to get.”.That’s what makes the Conservative Leadership race so absolutely essential to the future of Canadian democracy, Because if Singh and Trudeau have successfully fused together the NDP and Liberals into one party articulating one left-wing, woke ideology that encompasses not just socialist economics but crazy transgender ideology, buying off the media with government money, nullifying free speech and cancelling political enemies through financial and judicial punishment, the Conservatives under Erin O’Toole became a party that could easily fill-in for the Liberals on any given policy matter..If you want to see this truth demonstrated, compare the U.S. presidential debates to the 2021 federal election. In Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Joe Biden voters had a clear choice on innumerable issues and when they met to debate those issues, they actually debated, not deftly try to avoid any disagreement..Much of the Canadian media now pushes the mantra that democracy is somehow founded on consensus and that issues should be settled. Hence, in Canadian federal electrons, there is little debate and not even any discussion about things like abortion or climate change or health care. It seems we all agree on these things or we had better because that’s what the left-wing media believes should be the case..If the Tory leadership race doesn’t transform the party into a true conservative alternative to the hegemonic liberal discourse in this country, than we are destined to descend further and further into a miasma of big government oppression that will continue to grow bigger as it grabs tighter control of our lives..And if Jean Charest becomes the next party leader, conservatives and libertarians will be forced to consider doing the ideologically honest thing and support Maxime Bernier and the Peoples Party of Canada.
