Heritage Canada, that federal government department that increasingly has little to do with heritage but everything to do with censorship and woke politics, is at it again. This time, they have changed the name of an annual Yuletide program called “Christmas Lights Across Canada” to — you guessed it — “Winter Lights Across Canada.” .“The Christmas Lights Across Canada program, now called Winter Lights Across Canada, brings together Canadians in their communities so everyone can participate and join in the spirit of the season,” reads a disclosure statement from Canadian Heritage. .Does that mean that everyone could not participate when it was about Christmas? I’m sure that some of you are saying, “Should we care about another name change? I mean does it really matter, especially since this program is only focused on Ottawa and Gatineau?” .Resoundingly, yes: we should care. It is another example of how this Trudeau government thinks it can continue to kick Christians in the ass, by belittling their holy days. .Christmas is a holiday sacred to Roman Catholics, mainline Protestants and evangelical Christians. And people who are none of these things don’t really care if Dec. 25 is referred to as Christmas. The real irony here is that Heritage Canada is again ignoring Canadian heritage because Christmas is integral to that heritage. Canada was founded by a Scots Presbyterian named Sir John A. Macdonald and a French-Canadian Roman Catholic named George Etienne Cartier. .Now that’s national unity. They even named an airport after them. Neither could have imagined a day when the Canada they built would be purging Christmas from its national identity and foundation. .Oddly, just as the Trudeau regime continues to attack Christmas and Christians, the argument has gone the other way around in the United States. Former President Donald Trump made a point of telling Americans to say “Merry Christmas,” at this time of year and eschew the secularized “Happy Holidays.” For years, salespeople were afraid to utter the former phrase to customers, lest the woke Inquisition take them away for reprogramming. .Of course the federal government actively promotes the celebrations of other faiths, including the Jewish Hannukah, the Muslim Ramadan and the Hindu Diwali. Few people fret over this, so why should Christmas be targeted? I guess Justin doesn’t believe that Christians belong in his “Diversity is our strength” mantra. Trudeau decides what constitutes diversity, much like he decides what constitutes “hate speech” and how “misinformation” is defined. .Well, Justin Trudeau has a history of mocking Christians, especially evangelical Christians, as former Opposition Leader Candice Bergen (CPC-Portage-Lisgar) has noted. He has also reportedly called evangelical Christians “the worst part of society” while claiming they had no role in the founding of Canada. That of course is monumental B.S. Of course, Trudeau is out of synch with the Roman Catholic faith he claims to embrace. He’s at best what I call a smorgasbord Roman Catholic, one who picks and chooses from the church’s dogma according to his own personal prejudices. Trudeau’s government is actively pursuing an assisted-suicide program that is increasingly committed to outright euthanasia and his unrestricted abortion-on-demand policy is anathema to his church and Christians everywhere. Even atheists think there should be limits placed on abortion. But Trudeau’s government promotes this bestial practice as a “reproductive right” that should be celebrated. .So what else would this life-hating, suicide-promoting government want to do but smother the Divine truth of Christmas under a secular blanket of commercialism? Christmas is about God’s plan of salvation for the world; about a good life here on earth and an eternal life in Heaven through the incarnation of the Son of God. .There’s nothing secular about that.
