Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, stricken with COVID-19 yet again, has finally agreed the unvaccinated can board domestic flights and trains in Canada..I find that particularly good news because even though I still qualify as “fully vaccinated” I have not applied for a QR code because I don’t want the government following me wherever I go and don’t believe the bureaucrats when they tell me it will never be used for that purpose. .But just why did Trudeau decide right now that it was time to allow the great unwashed to fly and board trains within our borders? Just recently his Liberal government defeated a Conservative motion that would have rolled back the travel restrictions. The Liberals have always said their COVID-19 response was solidly based upon “the science,” so what makes it more scientific today to roll back another pandemic restriction?.Well, obviously nothing. Trudeau is only acting because he is getting a lot of noise from the airlines, who are increasingly furious over the lineups generated by the COVID-19 vaccine check-ins. It was already a nightmare getting through airport security after 9/11, COVID-19 just made it all the more hellish and you had better arrive at least four hours early for your flight if you expected to get on board. Have a connection? Good luck..Do you really think the lockdowns had anything to do with science? Why was it safe to take off your mask when you sat down at a restaurant table but only safe to keep it on when walking from the front door to your seat? Why did you have to stay two metres away from the back of someone’s head? Was that mask really keeping you safe from the microscopic droplets in the air?.Yes, it was probably a good thing we all assiduously washed our hands and copiously cleansed our washrooms and kitchens. Probably why we didn’t get colds for two years!.But don’t think Trudeau is changing course because he’s listening to public opinion..Trudeau doesn’t give a damn about what you think or what you say. He’ll walk across the street to avoid hearing it. He probably never watched any of those Cold War nuclear alert films but he instinctively reacts to angry crowds like they were an atomic bomb and there he's performing that classic “duck and cover” response. .But when corporations and money are concerned, Trudeau listens very attentively. When big pharmaceuticals told him to sell those coronavirus vaccines, he did his duty. When the banks told him freezing all those accounts as part of the Emergencies Act looked a little like authoritarianism, Trudeau decided to show a little restraint. When the airlines said enough is enough with this airport chaos, the prime minister reasoned the science had arrived to make a policy change..It's also noteworthy Trudeau’s cabinet ministers are making sure we understand the pandemic is not over..Of course it is. But for the Trudeau government, COVID-19 will never be over. It's just too convenient for people who like to govern by emergency measures. It’s the equivalent of Soviet Russia finding counter-revolutionaries whenever it was convenient to eradicate some political enemies. So that’s why the Liberals will continue to hang the emergency measures over our heads, like a veritable gun, because they might just have to bring them back if we aren’t compliant enough or if things become dangerous or if the science changes again. You just never know..There’s one group, of course, that still hasn’t gotten anything from the Trudeau government and that should come as no surprise. Truckers. The people who came to Ottawa to highlight the absurdity of the vaccination mandates, who put their jobs and their bodies on the line, they are still subject to vax mandates. They still can’t come back into Canada from a cross-border trip without isolating for two weeks. .Trudeau must really hate the truckers over the Freedom Convoy because they embarrassed him on the international scene. Even the Europeans who usually fall for his coy rhetoric thought he’d gone a bit too far this time by beating up on a bunch of truck drivers with their children. It just wasn’t a good visual for a guy who has never really been anything but an actor reading his lines. .The irony of course is Trudeau probably got his latest bout of COVID-19 in the U.S. (thank God for that booster shot!) and that means he should be put away in some COVID-19 camp and get a taste of his own febrile medicine and awful food like thousands of Canadians had to put up with..There’s another reason Trudeau lifted the travel restrictions. The House of Commons is about to adjourn for the summer and that means all MPs will return to their ridings for the season of lazy barbecues and probing questions from constituents who would have been demanding why the stupid Liberal government was still demanding people produce a vax pass to get on the airplane. With all the anticipated criticism about inflation and high gas prices, that’s at least one thing Justin can alleviate, so it was time to let science come to the rescue..It’s a shame Trudeau can’t see there's absolutely no foundation of science behind his insane carbon tax that has absolutely no effect on reducing greenhouse gasses because people still have to drive their cars no matter how much the gas costs. They just get poorer..That doesn’t bother Trudeau. Carbon dioxide to him is “pollution” and it needs to be taxed. That’s the science. He’s the dunderhead.
