The liberal bias within Canada’s legacy media outlets is hardly new or surprising. What does one expect when the government dangles hundreds of millions of tax dollars in front of them, much like a person holds a piece of bacon to make a dog sit up and beg?.Mainstream media is in full Trudeau cheerleading mode this week as most of Canada’s aspiring politicians do their annual pilgrimage at the Calgary Stampede. It is the one time of year when Albertans can feel loved by their federal political masters. The other 51 weeks? Not so much..The Globe and Mail outdid itself with a headline saying “Trudeau mobbed by admirers at Stampede pancake breakfast.” The image depicted a manically grinning Trudeau gloriously indulging in selfies with fawning admirers at an event..But wait, the Winnipeg Free Press had the exact same headline. Why, so did the Lethbridge Herald. Oh and CP 24!. MSM headlines .There were other outlets as well, but I think I've made my point..Can they at least make a token effort to do a little work?.The reason Trudeau was surrounded by admirers is the event was staged. Nobody aside from a small group directly in touch with his lone Calgary MP George Chahal even knew he was coming. People were quietly bused in to his event and instructed to crowd around Trudeau for the pictures..Look, I don’t fault Liberal organizers for staging the event..The Stampede is a must go for politicians and it never looks good to shun it. If the event had been made public, Trudeau would have been mobbed by protesters and hecklers. If I was a Liberal strategist (don’t suspect that will ever happen by the way), I would have done the same thing..It’s the weak, complicit mainstream media I am revolted with. They used the CP story and didn’t even bother to touch the headline..It is cut-and-paste journalism and it indicates two things..Laziness on the part if the media outlets and efforts to endear themselves to the Liberal party of Canada..Only one or two reporters were tipped off to attend the event. I would suspect they already had a reputation of being Liberal friendly..Where were other legacy media reporters anyway?.Well, they came out to the Conservative party barbecue in droves..The headlines were rather different though..Look at this gem from the CBC..“How a Conservative Party barbecue became Pierre Poilievre’s red meat cookout.”. CBC on barbecue .The piece then reported on pins being handed out. One said "hands off my six shooter," one with "more Alberta, less Ottawa." a Western themed one saying Trudeau was "All hat no cattle," and "Buck off, Trudeau.".It was noted Charest got a few boos and then pretty much went on to imply it was a redneck gathering of borderline extremists who were Poilievre supporters..This reporting has gone on for years and it works. It is little wonder the Liberals keep spending more and more tax dollars to keep fostering it..Does anybody remember the beauty in 2016 when the Trudeau Liberals staged an event in front of a chalkboard covered with random formulas? Trudeau then recited a carefully rehearsed statement on quantum computing to a room of cheering, giggling supporters.. Trudeau class .I'm surprised they didn’t give him some glasses with a little tape on the bridge to make him look more like a classic bookworm. The event was cheesy enough to warrant it..The Liberals were trying to knock down the growing impression among Canadians that Trudeau is a twit. They can’t be blamed for trying and working to convince people that Trudeau is a deep thinker is a monumental task. It failed and the Liberals went back to pictures of Trudeau shirtless or crashing weddings..It wasn’t the Liberal actions that were galling. It was how the mainstream media obliges them..Information is everything and the authoritarian Trudeau government wants to control it. Bills C-11 and C-18 are testaments to that..The defacto purchase of the Canadian media corps through subsidies is the most repugnant of their actions though..Legacy media outlets dance like trained monkeys to the government organ grinder. It must be so humiliating to journalists who entered the trade with dreams of doing investigative, critical, unbiased reporting. They are dependent on government funding and don't want to upset the apple cart. .It's not all bad. Alternative outlets, like the Western Standard, are filling the void created as mainstream media viewership and readership crater. .I believe in the long run, free media will win, though it may need to go nearly underground at some point..It will be a tougher ride for independent media outlets who refuse tax funding, but it's much more satisfying and we can hold our heads high..Legacy media continues to embarrass itself with every Liberal puff piece. .On the bright side, they are hastening their demise as an institution within Canada.
