A reader alerted me to an acidic post on Twitter ("X") by Nora Loreto who opined the slaughter of Israel citizens by Hamas terrorists on October 7 was justified. On the scale of importance, Loreto ranks as a moderately irrelevant attention-seeker whose specialty is offending and spreading misinformation. So why give her attention? She’s a glaringly classic example of an ingratitude that permeates and divides Canada, that's why.Loreto’s name didn’t ring a bell at first. Ah, yes, of course — the one who poured salt on the fresh wounds of the families of Humboldt Broncos junior hockey team accident victims.Sixteen members of the team were killed and 12 others injured on April 6, 2018, when a semi-truck in Saskatchewan blew through a stop sign and crashed into their bus.A GoFundMe was set up to raise money for the victims and their families suffering grief and hardship. Within days, $4 million was donated. Loreto had a problem with that. While tears that will never dry streamed down the faces of families and friends of the victims, while young survivors struggled to heal, Loreto coldly tweeted “maleness, youthfulness and the whiteness” of those kids played a role in how much money was raised.Boy, her spiteful little gizzard must have been twisted into an excruciating knot watching the donations climb to more than $15 million.Predictably, Loreto played the victim lamenting her self-inflicted wounds when a backlash ensued. On November 30, 2019, she mournfully posted: “Not one Canadian outlet has asked me to write something. Not one Canadian outlet had defended me and broken down the abuse I’ve gotten for 1.5 years. Not one Canadian outlet has asked me for comment. Not one editor, not one person with any power, has expressed regret.” Gee, you think? Utterly clueless.Over to Israel. While bodies of burned and dismembered corpses of babies were still being recovered — among other victims of the horrific massacre and rape spree — and hostages (an estimated 150 to 200 including elderly people and children) suffer unimaginable psychological and physical torture and abuse, Loreto concluded the cowardly Hamas attack was justified.“With Israel’s mandatory military service, you can make a more compelling argument about Israelis not being civilians, thereby justifying Hamas’ attack. I feel like I’d be more rhetorically careful if I were them,” she wrote. That sounds like an ominous threat. Anyone investigating that?Loreto, from Quebec, peddles herself as a “sought-after” public speaker. Well, OK. If one wants to feed hate eating at them, follow her. She seems to always be mad at someone.Freedom Convoy participants were “white supremacists.” She attacked Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow for saying Canada stands with Israel. In a July 6 post she was angry money was being spent to “search for the tiny little bits of people who had gone down on the Titanic excursion.” Five people died on June 18 when OceanGate’s Titan submersible imploded. These “tiny bits” were someone’s loved ones. Her rants go on.She’s also either extraordinarily ignorant of current affairs and history or deliberately loose with the facts. She takes the freedom Canada affords her to spit her venom for granted.“More people have been killed on picket lines in our history than people dying for your rights to vote. That’s because only one of these acts actually challenges power,” she posted. Insanity.Over decades, tens of thousands of Canadians died for our right to vote — and for the lives and freedoms of others in many countries. An estimated 68,000 in the First World War, 47,000 on the Second World War and more in Korea, South Africa, Bosnia, Iraq, Somalia, Rwanda, Afghanistan. Let’s not forget Canadian soldiers sent to Haiti to stop tribal slaughter there.Perhaps those who sacrificed lives and limbs apparently don’t count to Loreto. The vast majority, too young, too male, too white perhaps? But again, she’s just one face of a deeper problem. We see throngs of Canadians taking to the streets, in indignation, anger, hate and starting skirmishes with police on standby to maintain crowd control.Currently, it’s pro-Palestinian and pro-Israel protesters. They’ve replaced pro-Ukrainian and pro-Russian protesters who replaced others over time depending on where the war winds settle.Among them are students, mechanics, professors, politicians, paid agitators. Among them are newcomers and Canadian-born to parents or grandparents once newcomers themselves — all seeking the freedoms, benefits and opportunities Canada generously provides.Signs, chants, loudspeakers, a sea of flags wrapped around bodies, waving in the air.But something's always missing. Other than the occasional token one, our beautiful Canadian flag. The symbol of what allows protesters all that Canada has given them. Shameful. As the glorious Canada that once was is moulded by the Trudeau government into a nation where rights and freedoms are systematically stripped away, protesters en masse are fixated on tribal feuds and age-old grudges from their ‘homelands.’I’m not talking about protesters bringing attention to slaughters and injustices elsewhere. Canada’s soul has always been to protect, to fight for righteousness around the world. But, do you see anyone coming to our rescue as government policies disintegrate Canada into a divided, controlled World Economic Forum experiment? There’s a reason our military has dwindled to almost nothing and has been weakened. Fools who dismiss this as a conspiracy theory are just that — blind fools. The military just came under yet another freedom attack that has stripped away widespread freedom of information, parental rights, bodily autonomy rights, provincial rights and the right to freely worship. The military ordered its chaplains to refrain from religious prayers in official public Remembrance Day ceremonies, according to an October 11 directive obtained by The Epoch Times.Chaplains must carefully choose inclusive words because “we do not all pray in the same way.”If they don’t obey, they’ll face disciplinary action.“Therefore, it is essential for chaplains to adopt a sensitive and inclusive approach when publicly addressing military members,” reads the directive from Chaplain General Brigadier General Guy Belisle. This would be the same Belisle named in a lawsuit by 130 former and current military members because he allegedly “unlawfully” failed to protect their right to claim religious exemption from the COVID-19 vaccine mandates.Sure, he’ll solemnly attend a Remembrance Day ceremony somewhere and refrain from the prayer that Canadian soldiers facing the ravages of war fervently prayed. But what a clever communist move to crush religious freedom by the Trudeau government. It knows there’ll be no raging protests. Why?Because the throngs that glut the streets packed in like sardines waving a sea of flags from here, there and everywhere but Canada forget to show up for Remembrance Day ceremonies to pledge allegiance to Canada. The proof lies in dwindling numbers every year.Do these protesters even own a Canadian flag? Probably not. This is their home now! This is where their allegiances should lie first! Our freedoms are what they should be fighting for — before we lose them.
