One nation, one flag.In Canada, that would be the Maple Leaf. Just as it is. Just as it has been since it replaced the Union Jack in February 1965.A recent federal government-endorsed, altered version of Canada’s flag, designed to appease minority demands, is contemptibly arrogant and disrespectful. However, given the multitude of other flags frequently showcased at events, volatile protests and parades supporting various countries or groups, it appears there is significant confusion surrounding this matter. On this Canada Day, our nation’s 158th birthday, there must be no confusion, no ambiguity — and no acceptance of any other flags being held up, never mind given priority.Today, the beautiful Maple Leaf is the only flag that should be proudly hoisted, waved or displayed on T-shirts, caps and vehicles or anywhere. And preferably everywhere..Not the Ukrainian flag. Not the Israeli flag. Not the Iranian flag. Not the Palestinian or ISIS flags. Not the Mexican flag. Not the modified Maple Leaf with Pride colours that the federal government irreverently posted on Canada’s official X page. Not communist flags displaying the hammer and sickle that some misguided union types honour. Not any flag, other than the glorious red and white Maple Leaf!Is it really too much to demand — not politely ask, but demand — that those among us who benefit from all that Canada provides, while frequently expressing contempt for their surroundings, show some respect and appreciation? It’s Canada Day. It is not a day designated for protesting the Ukraine-Russia War. It is not a day for concentrating on the Middle Eastern conflict and bringing disputes here, in endless protests. It is not a day to advocate for jihad. It is not a day to only focus on celebrating Pride, as that has an entire month devoted to it..Will those who turn out in droves for those events afford Canada Day the same attention? Not likely! In the meantime, Canada has just a single day to commemorate its glory. Reflect on that. How did our priorities become so misaligned? On this Canada Day, the land we all occupy ought to be formally recognized as Canadian territory. This is unequivocal. There are no exceptions. Desiring recognition on equal terms for everybody under the flag, the law and in the eyes of God is not a negative aspiration. This statement should not prompt the inevitable unfounded accusations of racism or aversion to reconciliation, whatever that may entail. But it will.Anyone who can't take a moment to respect and celebrate Canada today should either shut up and stay at home or book a one-way ticket to whatever land where their hearts truly belong..That includes politicians who will deliver speeches crafted by others, extolling the virtues of Canada. They will applaud the fireworks displays, and then the traitors will scurry away to make choices that undermine, divide, and rob us of the rights that were fiercely fought for and defended by those who truly had— and continue to have — loyalty to Canada.Canadian patriots, and for now we are the majority, long for the olden days when Canada’s strengths — freedom, unity, honour, hope, a unique identity — were unabashedly championed and celebrated. That would be pre-2015, before then-prime minster Justin Trudeau sniffed that Canada had no “core identity” and set out to divide the nation, and crush rights of those with whom he disagreed..Then along came Mark Carney who landed in the prime minister’s chair after successfully campaigning on anti-American rhetoric, while tugging at patriotic heartstrings. Were the gray-haired boomers largely responsible for electing him, and re-electing many members of the old cabal, duped into believing that the Liberal government values would reflect our values?Reverence for the Maple Leaf is one of those values..Did the Carney government underestimate the majority’s allegiance to the Maple Leaf when it posted the image of our flag draped with Pride colours on June 22? Considering the backlash, it did. Instead of listening to what Canadians had to say, it selectively blocked replies. Is this a sign of more of that to come concerning other issues?Does the Liberal government even understand this was not an anti-minority backlash, but rather a ‘don’t mess with our flag’ rage?So much for the warning on Canada’s website that the Canadian flag should not be modified.Meanwhile, Canadian flag etiquette stipulates that you cannot eat on the Maple Leaf. But the Charter of Rights guarantees the right to stomp on it, shred it or burn it as so many malcontents and anarchists zealously do.Can you imagine the level of the rioting and carnage that would ensue on our streets if someone set fire to the Palestinian flag in the middle of a protest?.Meanwhile, the Liberals are pushing bills that threaten other rights and freedoms.Bill C-2, the Strong Borders Act will allow intelligence services to open and inspect mail, which could violate anyone’s privacy.Justice Minister Sean Fraser, who never had a portfolio he didn’t mess up, said on Sunday that the Liberals will take a “fresh” look at online harms legislation, according to the Canadian Press. An initial version of Bill C-63, The Online Harms Bill, that called for platforms with offensive content to be taken down within 24 hours severely threatens free expression and dangerously empowers the government to decide what is offensive and who should be punished. But go ahead, have at ‘er, burn the Canadian flag. Defacing the Maple Leaf is accepted freedom of expression.Meanwhile, Western independence is a looming reality because, like anarchists who stomp on the flag, the federal government stomps on the constitution and wantonly interferes with provincial autonomy and jurisdiction to the detriment of provincial citizens.Canada may be precariously holding on by a thread that could sever even the formidable Maple Leaf.Canadians today will hopefully reflect on what we have — and what we stand to lose. But, for many who take this country for granted, the old saying applies: ‘You don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone.’ Impoverished and oppressed countries like Iran and Argentina can testify to that.We must fight to protect this great and glorious land from intruders and traitors while we still can.Happy Canada Day. Cherish our Maple Leaf.
