Campaign Life Coalition (CLC) has urged Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre to respect the social conservative wing of his base, many of whom voted for him despite his pro-abortion stand. They are encouraged by Poilievre’s promised “free votes” for MPs on matters of conscience and believe that unlike Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, he won’t ban pro-life candidates from seeking office..They needn’t worry that Poilievre, unlike Trudeau, will implement rules for summer jobs programs that ban pro-life groups from participating..However, social conservatives can’t be blamed for being wary. They’ve been targeted by the Liberal government..And the Conservative party’s previous leaders Andrew Scheer, then Erin O’Toole, used them, embraced their support and then tossed them aside in failed efforts to maintain control and woo the left..The CLC also called on Poilievre to keep his promise to defund the “evil” taxpayer-funded CBC that promotes an “anti-conservative, anti-religion, anti-family, and anti-life” agenda..Poilievre was crowned leader Saturday, with a stunning 68% majority. Leslyn Lewis won 9.7% after campaigning on a pro-life platform promoting freedom of religion, conscience, and expression..The CLC signed up 45,000 new members to cast votes. The results show that pro-life social conservatives are a “major and irreplaceable portion of the Conservative Party of Canada (CPC) base,” said National CLC president Jeff Gunnarson in a statement..“By running a principled and unapologetically pro-life campaign, Lewis has moved the yardstick by leaps and bounds for what it means to be a pro-life politician here in Canada.”.The CLC said Poilievre can “respect” this support by giving Lewis a “prominent” foreign affairs position in his shadow cabinet. And if elected prime minister, Poilievre must end the $700 million Prime Minister Justin Trudeau sends annually to pay for abortions “to wipe out black children” in Africa, said the CLC..“The Conservative Party needs a foreign affairs critic and later a minister who would stop sending millions of dollars of aid overseas earmarked to kill pre-born children in the developing world by abortion.”.“This is ideological colonization at its worst. Lewis would be perfect for this job.”.Although Poilievre supports abortion, pro-lifers celebrated his promises of “free votes for MPs on matters of conscience, to promote the choice of adoption, and to defend pro-life crisis pregnancy centres from Liberal attacks.”.Conservative MPs have been long denied free votes on matters of conscience and ordered to avoid abortion debate for fear of igniting condemnation from Liberals and left-wing media..Poilievre “won over” a “huge portion” of pro-life party members by campaigning on freedom, said CLC’s Director of Political Operations Jack Fonseca..Appointing Lewis to foreign affairs would promote unity..“It’s praiseworthy that Poilievre has promised to support pregnant women, providing them with resources to make choices other than abortion.”.“While Trudeau has vowed to strip our country’s pregnancy resource centres of their charitable status, Poilievre has promised to stand up for such centres.”.Meanwhile, even some pro-choice Canadians object to the obscene amount of taxpayer money sent abroad to support the Liberal’s abortion crusade..“It’s $700 million per year that Justin Trudeau is funneling primarily to Africa but also other poor countries,” said Fonseca..Funds go to abortions, abortion advocacy organizations striving to change laws in countries where abortion is illegal, and to sexual health and reproductive education designed to get the public to accept abortion..“It is a form of ideological colonization. In the past we had white Europeans go to Africa and physically take over the African lands and subject them to servitude and slavery and violence.”.“Trudeau’s doing the same thing with money. He’s suppressing black children and the black people of Africa by wiping them out with abortion.”.“Coming from our blackface prime minister this sort of soft racism is perhaps not too much a surprise.”.Social conservative MPs were punished by Scheer and O’Toole..“Poilievre should learn from the mistakes of the two leaders who pushed out of the party their opponents in the leadership race,” said Fonseca. “In 2017 Andrew Scheer did a purge of basically all the MPs that ran against him. He pushed Maxime Bernier and Kellie Leitch out of the party. He pushed Brad Trost out by giving resources to his opponent in his nomination race.”.“Then we saw Erin O’Toole push out Derek Sloan. I’m sure he wanted to push Leslyn Lewis out too, but she was too popular so he couldn’t quite do that.”.Each MP had a base of support the party could have benefited from. “Hopefully Pierre is smarter than Scheer and O’Toole were. It will benefit him to give Lewis a senior cabinet role and keep her significant base happy.”.Judging by Poilievre’s victory speech it seems unlikely he’ll repeat their mistakes..He called on Conservatives to set aside differences and unite to form the next government. He praised the strengths and contributions of his rivals and sent a message to their supporters..“I open my arms to you. Now today, we are one party serving one country.”.But does Poilievre have the stamina to dismantle the CBC?.“They’re a media outfit that has been advocating and promoting abortion for decades. Not only abortion, but also euthanasia, homosexuality, transgenderism, and working aggressively to undermine the church and religion in Canada,” said Fonseca..Much content in Kids’ CBC “corrupts children,” said Fonseca.“It’s an organization that is essentially evil and really needs to go.”.Fonseca pointed to one stark example that forever lost public broadcaster viewers in 2014..The CBC, which refused to display Mohammed cartoons, celebrated as art the “Piss Christ” photo by Andres Serrano depicting a crucifix in a container of his own urine..Yet Canadian taxpayers — Christian or not — disgusted by offensive content, are forced to cough up what has escalated to $1.2 billion a year to fund the CBC..“The few things that you can point to that are good about the CBC, regional programming, doesn’t compare to the tsunami of evil and corruption that outlet promotes.”.“We want to see this organization defunded once and for all. It can continue to do its abortion advocacy with private dollars and compete for the hearts and minds and attention of viewers as a private organization with ads.”.“But it shouldn’t be pushing this anti-life, anti-family, anti-religion agenda with our tax dollars.”.Fonseca, like many Canadians, is baffled as to why Conservatives have failed to defund the CBC..“Let me throw something else in for the benefit of Conservatives who don’t agree with our moral positions on abortion, euthanasia and other stuff.”.“Ultimately, it’s in the Conservative Party’s best interest for Poilievre to defund the organization if he becomes prime minister.”.“At their core, they’re an anti-conservative media outlet. They exist to help Liberals win elections and to defeat Conservatives.”.But Poilievre can count on resistance from within his party..“Red Tories don’t have any stomach for cultural war issues. Their default position is let’s bow down to the liberal media… we cannot fight them, let’s just try to get on their good side, let’s not put up any resistance…”.Once upon a time people of faith “felt at home” in the Liberal Party..“Those days are long over. Justin Trudeau has transformed the Liberal Party into a verifiable hate group against Christians.”.The CPC has become home for religious, socially conservative voters amongst mainstream parties..“Given the CBC's aggressive anti-Christian bias, it is therefore incongruent for a Conservative government to continue funding the organization with billions of taxpayer dollars.".Poilievre vowed to be the one to defund it. He knows the left-wing media who line up at Trudeau’s trough for handouts will come at him with a vengeance. With the wind at his back — strong Conservatives like Lewis and many others — he’ll be OK..And so will Canada — if it survives Trudeau’s regime.
