President Javier Milei rattled cages recently by keeping a promise to declassify documents on Nazi fugitives who fled to Argentina from Germany, after the Second World War.On April 29, Milei made 1,850 documents available for public view on the National Archives (AGN) website. They shed new light on finances, records and activities of up to 12,000 Nazis — including some of the most diabolical — who landed in Argentina.Following defeat by allied forces, thousands who swore allegiance to Führer Adolf Hitler’s genocidal occult worshipping Third Reich (1933-1945,) escaped to South American countries, Canada, the US, Australia, Spain, Switzerland and Mexico.They left behind gas chambers, ovens coated in human ashes, mass graves, survivors forever traumatized and generations of innocent Germans to bear the crippling shame they caused..Trudeau gov’t won’t release Nazi fugitives blacklist.They ran away from the piles of concrete rubble to live normal lives in fine homes, marry, run businesses... some used aliases. Others were bold and arrogant enough to use their real names.Many details of thousands of Nazi war criminals behind millions of deaths — including six million Jews during the Holocaust — and those who collaborated to sneak them to safety have long been shrouded in secrecy.Canada’s no exception. The federal government guards war criminal investigation files and protects the anonymity of an alleged identified 900 Nazis who found refuge here. However in April, Information Commissioner Caroline Maynard ordered the Department of Justice to release nearly 21,000 memos about the continued concealment of postwar files regarding Nazi fugitives who came to Canada. We’ll see..Milei ordered the document release upon request by the Simon Wiesenthal Center (SWC,) a global Jewish human rights activist organization, named after Jewish Austrian Holocaust survivor and famous Nazi hunter Simon Wiesenthal.Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley, chairman of the US Senate Judiciary Committee requested their release in a letter to Milei.Both SWC and Grassley are investigating Zurich-based Credit Suisse bank, formerly Schweizerische Kreditanstalt bank, where monies from seized Jewish property in Germany were hidden in secret Swiss accounts.They want to get to the bottom of Credit Suisse’s history with Nazi-linked accounts and possible funding of ratlines..Justice Department ordered to release Nazi files .Ratlines were networks of Nazi escape routes facilitated by sympathizers in the Vatican, government officials in Argentina and elsewhere, and the International Red Cross that claimed it mistakenly approved travel documents for 8,000 Nazis enabling them to travel to Canada and Britain.About 2.7 million Jews murdered by poison gas at Chelmno, Belzec, Treblinka, Auschwitz-Birkenau and Sobibor killing centers. Another two million were murdered in massacres and mass shootings. Nearly one million died in ghettos, labour and concentration camps. Another 250,000 were killed in riots and individual executions.Then there were millions of non-Jews slaughtered by the Nazis, including Soviet prisoners of war, Poles, Romani gypsies, Serbs, disabled and elderly, political opponents, blacks, gays and Jehovah’s Witnesses.The war took the lives of members of resistance groups and millions of German and allied soldiers, including 44,000 Canadians killed and another 55,000 wounded.German civilians. Dead.But the ratlines protected the Nazis..Along with previously released information, there are 1,300 never-released confidential Argentine presidential decrees from 1957 to 2005 and secret intelligence files. Documents reveal Nazi-linked bank accounts, some individuals holding multiple accounts and records linking ratline operatives to fugitives in Argentina. Prior to the release of the documents, some speculated they might provide answers to theories swirling around Hitler’s fate. For decades some have questioned the narrative of his suicide by bullet on April 30, 1945, along with his wife Eva Braun’s cyanide suicide, instead claiming he escaped to Argentina. That includes a 2017 ‘bombshell’ CIA document investigating his escape. It appears Milei’s released documents offer no proof. However, they do provide damning new details on the finances, bank records and activities of many including the ‘Angel of Death’ Josef Mengele, and the architect of Hitler’s Final Solution, Adolf Eichmann. Mengele, aided by a Catholic priest, arrived in Argentina in 1949 and eventually married his brother’s widow. At one point he used his real name, yet eluded capture for 30 years. Mengele conducted torturous, deadly medical experiments without anaesthesia on the disabled, dwarfs, pregnant women and children — especially twins — at Auschwitz. His diabolical experiments included sex change operations, sewing twins together to form Siamese twins, amputating limbs and trying to attach them to other bodies. He helped decide who to send to the gas chambers. He had a heart attack and drowned in Brazil in 1979. .SLOBODIAN: Plenty of hypocrisy to go around on the Hunka file.Eichmann was the mastermind behind the death camps to exterminate Jews, and the heinous ID tattoos. After hiding out in Austria, aided by an Italian Franciscan monk, he obtained a fake Red Cross passport and headed to Buenos Aires in 1950.He worked in a Mercedes-Benz automotive plant until captured by the Israeli Mossad in 1960. He was hanged in Israel May 31, 1962. .Lawyer Gerhard Bohne was in charge of the euthanasia program in the Third Reich’s sanatoriums and nursing homes. He called himself a mercy killer. (Most euthanasia enthusiasts do.)His goal was to purify the Aryan race. He sent 200,000-270,000 mentally and physically disabled Germans and those with incurable diseases to gas chambers — a trial run for the millions who would be forced to follow.Bohne fled to Argentina in 1949 and was given identity papers by former president Juan Peron’s Nazi-sympathetic government (Peron was eventually overthrown.) Bohne was extradited to Germany and declared unfit to stand trial. He died in 1981.Here in Canada, decades of demands and access to information requests for the release of the names of Nazis who found refuge here, hit brick walls. They were identified, along with 27 recommended for prosecution, in the 1985 Commission of Inquiry on War Criminals led by retired Quebec judge, Jules Deschênes. Many details in the 618-page Deschenes Commission report were blacked out. The federal government feebly reasons that releasing the list of names could cause harm to Canadian interests and international relations. Calls to release the un-redacted Deschênes report intensified in October 2023 after Yaroslav Hunka, 98, got the royal treatment and a standing ovation in the House of Commons, during a visit by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.Hunka fought with the 14th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS (1st Galician) in the Second World War, a Nazi unit..Was Hunka’s name on the list?How many Nazis ran to Canada to enjoy its safety and opportunity, leaving behind crosses marking the graves of our brave soldiers who fought their evil?Why does transparency matter? Because antisemitism, that is rapidly spread through parts of Europe, fuelled the Holocaust. Along with seeking justice, Sen. Grassley’s Judiciary Committee recently concluded hearings on antisemitism spreading in the US.Sound familiar?
