The Alberta NDP love to position themselves as champions of social justice, particularly in their sanctimonious defence of all women, at all times, in all places, for all reasons — as long as it serves the purpose of corralling weak minds and shaming opponents. On Thursday, NDP MLA Jodi Calahoo Stonehouse, who is indigenous, committed blasphemy against her own dogmas drawn from the scripture of diversity, equity, and inclusion. She verbally attacked a woman — Premier Danielle Smith in absentia — in an arguably sexually explicit manner during debate in the legislature. Shame on her..“The rest of Canada wants to go elbows up, and she’s got her head you know where, headed to Florida,” said Calahoo Stonehouse, later apologizing. Was her vile comment an insinuation of oral sex, or simply coarse? Had a conservative politician offended Calahoo Stonehouse in such a manner, it would make international headlines. The incident followed days of mind-blowing hysteria from the NDP over Smith’s visit to Florida, where she spoke alongside conservative Jewish commentator Ben Shapiro at a PragerU event. The NDP cried racism and Islamophobia, citing offensive historical comments by Shapiro..Smith was in the U.S. promoting Alberta and Canada in the absence of a functioning federal government. Prime Minister Mark Carney isn’t yet an MP. Parliament was suspended 82 days ago.The NDP Liberals have called Smith a traitor for her proactive diplomacy with President Donald Trump and other American politicians and business leaders — granted, she isn’t anointed by the NDP, who’ve done nothing.Alberta NDP Leader Naheed Nenshi should chastise his colleagues, and set boundaries to the language of rage and hate. .Earlier in the week, NDP MLA Rakhi Pancholi confronted Jason Nixon, Alberta’s minister of seniors, community and social services, outside the legislative chamber.Mental Health and Addiction Minister Dan Williams alleged that Pancholi called Nixon “a colossal piece of s–t” during a heated exchange in the rotunda of the legislature. This followed a nasty moment during question period when Pancholi heckled Nixon, calling him “absolutely disgusting” as proceedings ended. Pancholi later apologized in the assembly, acknowledging her conduct “negatively affected the decorum of this house.”The NDP should get off its high horse, roll up its sleeves, and get to work for Albertans outside of sermonizing, name calling and hysteria.Mr. Nenshi was contacted for comment, but had not responded at press time.
