If you’re a Canadian who's been following this election closely and have started to feel like you might be going insane, don’t worry. You’re not alone. This might be one of the most contradictory and bewildering elections we’ve ever seen in this country.
There’s no reason to be ashamed if you do feel this way, honestly I’d be more concerned for if you didn’t. It’s a completely normal reaction that any sane person should feel witnessing the collapse of the Canadian electorate's ability to critically think.
Because that’s the only explanation I can come up with when I look at the sudden change in our political landscape — a majority of Canadians would rather just blindly do whatever it is Mike Myer’s tells them to do.
After all, up until two months ago the general consensus among the majority of Canadians was that we needed to vote the Liberals out of because among other things, they ruined the economy and lowered our standard of living. This was a reality that had been reflected in the polls for nearly two years.
But then, practically overnight, as if a switch had been thrown, the majority of Canadians changed their minds. Now they don’t want to elect the Conservatives because they believe that only the Liberals are equipped to prevent our economy from being ruined and our standard of living from being lowered.
Let me repeat that for emphasis in a different way.
A majority of Canadians now think that the best people to protect our economy and standard of living from the damage of US tariffs, are the same ones who brought our economic growth to a standstill, made housing inaccessible for millions, and caused our violent crime rate to skyrocket.
To quote Mike Myers when he played Dr. Evil in Austin Powers, “Riiiiiight.”
It’s a premise that is so bizarre that if you tried to pitch it to the producers of the Twilight Zone they would laugh in your face and refuse to make it an episode. “It’s just too unbelievable” they would say, “nobody could be that dumb.”
But apparently they are, and Mark Carney and the Liberals are getting set to swindle Canadian’s like a bunch of slack-jawed tourists who get cajoled into betting on a shell game while visiting a third world country.
Because if there is one thing that Mark Carney and the Liberals know, it’s how to grift Canadians. They’ve been doing it with remarkable dexterity ever since they first formed government in 2015.
After nearly a decade in power the Liberals have perfected the art of bamboozling Canadians. It’s an ingrained behaviour so entrenched that only a complete patsy would think that it suddenly ceased to exist the moment they prorogued parliament to pull a ‘bait and switch’ and installed Carney as their leader.
The Liberals have wasted billions of dollars on non-viable EV battery plants and other projects managed under Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC), also known as the ‘Green Slush Fund’.
The Liberals have funnelled millions of tax dollars to Hamas through the UNRWA while doing absolutely nothing to combat the rampant threats and antisemitism directed towards Jewish Canadians.
Big name Liberals like Justin Trudeau, Randy Boissonnault, Mary Ng, Dominic Leblanc, Bill Morneau and Greg Fergus have given lucrative government contracts to friends, and family members, or flagrantly contravened parliamentary ethics rules and conflict of interest laws.
In fact the Liberals have committed so many transgressions against Canada, and our democracy, that I’d blow past my editor-imposed word count trying to list them all.
Which is why I find it more than a little poetically convenient that the current leader of the Liberals has the last name Carney; he leads a veritable circus. And just because the Liberals changed their ringleader doesn’t mean that the clowns responsible for running the show are any different. They aren’t.
While there is no arguing Carney’s cabinet is smaller than Trudeau’s, it is no less dangerous to Canada. Think of it like concentrated evil as opposed to a more diluted solution. It remains a rogue's gallery of ministers responsible for bringing Canada to its knees in a weakened and vulnerable state in the face of a hostile Trump administration.
But perhaps the most bewildering and mind-altering aspect of this election is the apparent delusion some Canadians hold, that only Mark Carney and the Liberals have a plan fix Canada’s woes and deal with Trump and his tariffs.
If you are one of those who believe this, then maybe you’ve had your ‘elbows up’ for too long and it’s affecting the circulation to your brain. Try putting them down and see if that helps.
Of course they have a plan, they stole it almost verbatim from the Pierre Poilievre and the CPC.
Which, when you look at that policy piracy in the light of the recent allegations that Mark Carney committed several acts of plagiarism when writing his thesis at Oxford University, makes total sense.
If Carney was happy to co-opt other people's ideas in university, why wouldn't he copy other party leader’s ideas and try to pass them off as his own, in an election? For, he’s apparently trying to do the same thing in a bid to get you to let him run a country.
Do not fall for it. No one should condone academic dishonesty, just like no one should encourage economic suicide. Just ask the United Kingdom which is still reeling from the financial policies he implemented there.
But perhaps the most mind-boggling aspect of this election is the galling hypocrisy of Liberals. They want Canadians to forget that before adopting the CPC’s policies as their own, they repeatedly voted against them in the House of Commons.
So I ask you, you docile and gullible Canadian voters, why would the Liberals vote against the very ideas that they are now championing. What’s changed?
I’ll tell you. It’s because they were about to lose power.
The Liberals don’t want to form government because they believe in Canada; if they did they wouldn’t have intentionally choked out a billion-dollar GDP generating industry like our energy sector and laughed as they alienated Alberta. They wouldn’t let Chinese tariffs on our western agriculture producers go unchecked. They wouldn’t have let our military degrade to such a deplorable state.
No, they only want to form government because then they can carry on doing whatever it is they want. They can act on whatever fantastical whims enters their minds with impunity, like phasing out all internal combustion vehicles by 2035.
It’s power they want, and they will divide, distract, deflect, and damn anyone who gets in their way.
If you can’t see that, then I don’t know what to say to you other than your inability to carry out the most basic deductive reasoning is making those of us who can feel like we are going insane.
