Another cancel culture feeding frenzy erupted recently when Red Deer Catholic School trustee Monique LaGrange posted an image comparing the ideological manipulation of children in Nazi Germany with the ideological manipulation of children in Canada today. The German children were flying swastika flags and the Canadian children were flying gay pride flags. Officials of the educational establishment loudly condemned her deviation from progressive dogma and demanded her head.Doesn’t she know our political and educational elites expect every Canadian to pledge allegiance to the gay pride flag? In a free and democratic country such as Canada, every citizen must conform to the reigning ideology, or else! The message from the cancel culture mob was unmistakable: do not criticize the use of government schools to promote gay pride! Anyone who objects will be publicly vilified.Such vilification could also be seen in the mainstream media’s coverage of the 1 Million March 4 Children on September 20, where people protested against the promotion of progressive sexual ideology in schools. Objecting to that ideology was widely labelled as “hate.”Anyway, the fact that Monique LaGrange has not resigned and is sticking up for herself is a remarkable feat of bravery. In standing tall, she represents many Albertans who have not bowed the knee to the far-left sexual dogma embraced by public educational authorities.Alberta would surely benefit from a populist revolt against the dominant ideological perspective in government schools and perhaps LaGrange can provide the spark leading to such a revolt.Importantly, she is receiving the support of David Parker and Take Back Alberta. Whatever one may think of Parker, he has been mobilizing ordinary Albertans for political activity on the largest scale in many years, even decades. His populist organizing has been remarkable and he has therefore become a key target of the corporate media.Parker has been quoted in the Calgary Herald as saying: “The Red Deer County Catholic School Board will be replaced in the next municipal election. Every single trustee will be removed from office, except Monique.”“Then, we will fire the superintendent. This will happen in every school board across this province until this woke ideology is eradicated from any decision-making role in our schools.”The problem with government school leadership in Alberta was clearly demonstrated earlier this year.Back in June, to be exact, an Edmonton public school teacher lambasted some Muslim students who skipped out of gay pride celebrations. According to a recording of her remarks, she told the students, “You are out to lunch if you think it’s acceptable to not show up because … there’s Pride activities going on at school.” She continued, saying “we believe that people can marry whomever they want, that is in the law, and if you don’t think that should be the law, you can’t be Canadian.”This is called shoving an ideology down the throats of students, and by implication, their parents as well: “you can’t be Canadian” if you don’t support gay pride. In other words, everyone must conform! This sort of coercion is the progressives’ favourite method of persuasion. How else can you convince people women can have penises and men can get pregnant? It’s not done by reason and evidence, that’s for sure. People are forced to acquiesce to this nonsense on pain of public shaming, or worse. In contrast to that Edmonton teacher’s conception of what being a Canadian is all about, consider the perspective of Prime Minister John Diefenbaker in 1960: “I am Canadian, a free Canadian, free to speak without fear, free to worship God in my own way, free to stand for what I think right, free to oppose what I believe wrong, free to choose those who govern my country.”Free to stand for what I think right, free to oppose what I believe wrong? Not if you’re Monique LaGrange or anyone else who supports traditional morality over gay pride. That’s why it’s so important for Albertans to support her. We all lose our freedoms when a public figure is cancelled for standing up to the progressive bullies. We need more people such as Monique LaGrange in leadership. Then we can tell the government school authorities to stick their pride flags in their ears.
