Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) stated they did not supply weapons, ammunition, or explosives to four Quebec men arrested last week for alleged terrorism offences. Department of National Defence (DND) issued this clarification this morning.“Of note, the weapons, ammunition, and explosives that were seized as part of the RCMP-led investigation that resulted in the arrests on July 8, 2025, did not originate from the Canadian Armed Forces,” said the DND statement.“The Military Police and the Canadian Army continue to support the ongoing investigation led by the RCMP and no further details can be released.”“At any time, should the integrity of a CAF member be called into question, various actions include restricting access to the base, weapons, and individuals’ security clearances in addition to other administrative measures.”The statement came hours before the suspects latest court appearance. .It did not reveal the actual source of the seized weapons and ammunition.In a brief Quebec City court hearing on Monday morning, a Crown prosecutor announced the government would oppose bail for three of the suspects. No specific reasons were provided. A two day bail hearing for these three is scheduled for July 24 and July 25. The court approved a request for a TV to screen videos during the proceedings..RCMP arrested Marc-Aurele Chabot, 24, Simon Angers-Audet, 24, and Raphael Lagace, 25, all from the Quebec City area, along with Matthew Forbes, 33, of Pont-Rouge, in dawn raids last week. According to the RCMP's national security team, Chabot, Angers-Audet, and Lagace took concrete actions to assist terrorist activity. Each faces one charge of facilitating terrorist activity, carrying a maximum sentence of 14 years if convicted.Forbes faces different charges, including possession of firearms, prohibited devices, explosives, and controlled items. Forbes bail hearing had not yet happened.
