Bernadette McIntyre installed as new Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan

Bernadette McIntyre has officially assumed her role as the twenty-fourth Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan in a ceremonial installation held on Friday at the Legislative Building in Regina.

During the ceremony, McIntyre received warm congratulations from provincial leaders, including Premier Scott Moe, who praised her exceptional career and dedication to public service. 

“Past Lieutenant Governors have exemplified volunteerism and service to Saskatchewan people, and I am confident with a highly distinguished career, spanning over areas such as tourism, sports, and business, that Her Honour is no different,” Moe said. 

“I offer my congratulations to Ms. McIntyre, and look forward to seeing the outstanding service she will provide to the province.”

Following the formal proceedings, McIntyre conducted an inspection of the honour guard in the Legislative Assembly Rotunda, marking the beginning of her tenure as the personal representative of the Sovereign in Saskatchewan.

In her new role, McIntyre will hold key responsibilities, including granting Royal Assent to provincial laws and managing the opening and dissolution of the provincial legislature. The appointment of a Lieutenant Governor is made by the Governor General on the advice of the Prime Minister, with no fixed term of office.

McIntyre’s installation as Lieutenant Governor is seen as a continuation of her longstanding commitment to the province, bringing her extensive experience in various fields, including tourism, sports, and business, to her new position as Saskatchewan’s vice-regal representative.
