Canadian fugitive Daniel 'Juma' Atem appears in Regina court on first-degree murder charge

Daniel “Juma” Atem, 31, was wanted in connection with a fatal shooting in the summer of 2023.

Atem was arrested on January 15 in Winnipeg under a Canada-wide warrant. 

Following his weekend transfer to Regina, Atem appeared in Regina Provincial Court on Monday. 

He is charged with First-Degree Murder and Failing to Comply with Conditions of Release in the death of 32-year-old Roman Miller, who was fatally shot on July 29, 2023.

Authorities report that Atem had been placed on the “Top 25 Most Wanted” list by the BOLO Program, a national non-profit organization focused on spotlighting individuals wanted for serious crimes. 

Atem’s arrest comes after months of investigation and a coordinated effort between Winnipeg and Regina law enforcement.

Further court dates and proceedings are expected as the investigation and legal process continue.
