A Regina Police Service (RPS) officer, identified as Sgt. Robert Eric Semenchuck, is facing charges of breach of trust and unauthorized use of a computer following an investigation by the RPS.

It is alleged that he accessed internal databases for non-work purposes, allegedly pursuing personal relationships with information obtained from the databases.

A member of the public alerted RPS in early 2023 of Semenchuck’s alleged misuse of a police database.

In response, the RPS suspended Semenchuck and revoked his database access.

Semenchuck is a 22-year veteran RPS officer.

Crown prosecutors reviewed the evidence, leading to Semenchuck’s formal charges on March 11.

The RPS said it is committed to transparency, public accountability, and ethical standards from its officers and employees.

According to a RPS press release, investigators took the complaint seriously and suspended Semenchuck, aiming to protect public trust and ensuring accountability and fairness throughout legal proceedings.

His next court appearance is on April 22.
