Saskatchewan drivers are being hit with 31 cents per litre in combined federal and provincial taxes when they fill up at the pump, according to a new report from the Canadian Taxpayers Federation.CTF’s twenty-seventh annual Gas Tax Honesty Report shows that taxes account for about 24% of the pump price in the province, with a typical family minivan fill-up costing about $23 in taxes alone..Poilievre launches campaign to stop Carney’s gas car ban."Saskatchewanians are paying three different taxes every time they fill up their vehicles," said Gage Haubrich, CTF Prairie Director. "Both Prime Minister Mark Carney and Premier Scott Moe need to cut their taxes on fuel that make life more expensive."The tax burden breaks down to 10 cents per litre for the federal gas tax, about 6.3 cents per litre for GST, and 15 cents per litre for the provincial gas tax..The report comes as other provinces have moved to provide relief at the pumps. Ontario recently made permanent its 6.4 cents per litre gas tax cut, while Newfoundland and Labrador reduced its gas tax by eight cents per litre in June 2022."Moe needs to take a look at what's going on in other provinces and cut the gas tax," Haubrich said. "Other provinces have been able to cut gas taxes to make life more affordable and the government of Saskatchewan needs to step up and do the same.".EDITORIAL: Scrap the useless Chinese EV tariff, which hurts Canada’s canola, pork, seafood industries. The CTF’s annual report aims to highlight what it calls "hidden taxes" that contribute to higher fuel costs for drivers across the country.
