Assistant Commissioner Rhonda Blackmore is no longer commanding the Saskatchewan RCMP following anonymous complaints to the national headquarters. Blackmore told employees in an internal email that senior leadership in Ottawa informed her on June 3 that she was “removed from command” of “F” Division effective immediately. Neither the division’s media team or the RCMP National Headquarters would say what the complaints allege or whether any investigation is underway.Blackmore, 53, took the top Saskatchewan post in April 2021 after nearly three decades with the RCMP. .In an email, she wrote that everything she did “was done with integrity” and that the decision left her future “very uncertain.” During her tenure, she pushed to recruit more First Nations officers and lead the division through the 2022 James Smith Cree Nation mass stabbing, as well as the public inquiry that followed. The assistant commissioner also became the public face of several operations, including firearm seizures and the response to last year’s wildfire evacuations. A temporary acting commander has not been named. The RCMP said an update on divisional leadership will be provided “in due course.”
