Saskatchewan's Agriculture Minister, Daryl Harrison, is set to embark on a trade mission to India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from February 11-19, aiming to bolster the province’s agricultural exports and forge stronger international trade relationships.

During his visit, Harrison will engage with key business leaders, buyers, and investors, while also participating in two major industry events: the Pulses Conclave in Delhi, India, and the Gulfood Exhibition in Dubai, UAE.

"The United Arab Emirates and India are important export markets for Saskatchewan, especially in the pulse sector," Harrison said. "We will continue to reinforce our longstanding commitment as a reliable and trustworthy supplier of high-quality agricultural products."

Saskatchewan plays a significant role in supplying pulses to both nations. In 2024, the province accounted for 70% of the UAE’s lentil imports and 54% of its dry pea imports. Meanwhile, Saskatchewan supplied 46% of India's lentil imports and 43% of its dry pea imports. India ranks as Saskatchewan’s third-largest agri-food export market, while the UAE is the ninth-largest.

Harrison’s mission will highlight the sustainability of Saskatchewan’s crop production while also fostering trade, research, and investment opportunities. His schedule includes a keynote speech at the Pulses Conclave, a premier conference uniting international pulse suppliers with Indian buyers and processors. Additionally, he will meet with the Consul Generals of Canada in both India and the UAE to discuss expanding trade partnerships.

In Dubai, Harrison will attend the Gulfood 2025 trade show, one of the world's largest food and beverage exhibitions, featuring 5,500 exhibitors from 129 countries. He will also hold meetings with major industry associations and companies specializing in oilseeds, wheat, pulses, and food ingredients.

Saskatchewan maintains a network of nine international trade offices, including dedicated locations in India and the UAE. These offices work to expand the province's exports, attract foreign investment, and strengthen ties with key global partners.

Harrison’s trade mission underscores Saskatchewan’s commitment to maintaining its position as a leading global supplier of agricultural products while fostering sustainable growth in international markets.
