Saskatchewan government is cutting the Education Property Tax mill rate in its 2025 budget, a move that is being welcomed by the Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF).

“Saskatchewanians need tax relief, and this property tax cut will make a real difference for property owners,” said Gage Haubrich, Prairie Director of CTF.

“Tax cuts like this help grow the economy and leave more money in taxpayers pockets.”

The reduction comes after the government previously raised the Education Property Tax mill rate in 2022.

The new cut is expected to save taxpayers over $100 million annually, while the province projects $805 million in property tax revenue this year.

A typical Regina household currently pays around $3,118 in total property taxes.

With many residents struggling financially, as highlighted by recent Angus Reid polling, the tax cut provides relief for families.

“This is a good first step that helps make Saskatchewan farmers and businesses more competitive amid economic uncertainty,” said Haubrich.

“But the government needs to take the next step and offer more tax relief to all Saskatchewanians.”

The tax cut aligns with broader calls for easing financial pressures on households and businesses as economic challenges persist ahead of next week’s Saskatchewan budget.
