Saskatchewan saw the highest increase in building construction spending in Canada this February, according to new data from Statistics Canada.
Spending on building construction in the province jumped 29.9% in February 2025 compared to the same month last year, outpacing all other provinces.
“These numbers reflect Saskatchewan’s strong economy and continued growth in capital spending as more people choose to build and grow their families here,” said Trade and Export Development Minister Warren Kaeding. “Whether they are building homes, infrastructure, or businesses, they are spending on the future of Saskatchewan.”
Investment in building construction is measured by the total value spent on construction projects across the province.
The strong performance comes as Statistics Canada also reported that Saskatchewan’s real GDP hit a record $77.9 billion in 2023, up 2.3% from 2022. That ranks second in the country and exceeds the national average of 1.6%.
Private capital spending in Saskatchewan rose 17.3% last year to $14.7 billion, leading the country. It’s projected to grow another 10.1% in 2025, reaching $16.2 billion—second among the provinces for expected growth.
The province’s investment strategy, launched last year, aims to secure long-term economic growth and position Saskatchewan as a top destination for business.
