Saskatchewan Marshals Service (SMS) will open its first regional headquarters in the North Battleford area.

The new facility, set to launch in the fall of 2025, will include an Inspector and 10 Marshals, supported by a team of civilian staff.

“We welcome the recent announcement of the Marshals Service commencing operations in Saskatchewan and the confirmation that they will have a presence in the Battlefords,” said Town of Battleford Mayor Ames Leslie.

“Establishing a headquarters in our region is a positive step toward addressing habitual crime.”

According to Chief Marshal Robert Cameron, the SMS looks forward to forging strong relationships with the RCMP and other partners to enhance public safety.

“The Saskatchewan Marshals Service is very excited to announce our first regional headquarters in the province,” said Cameron.

“We look forward to working in lockstep with all of our stakeholders and partners, including the RCMP, as we improve public safety and security for everyone in the Battlefords region.”

In the lead-up to this decision, SMS senior leadership consulted with officials from nearby cities and towns, as well as the local RCMP detachment.

Discussions focused on how the SMS can complement, rather than duplicate, police services in the region.

“The success of the SMS depends on strong partnerships between policing agencies to avoid duplication of services and instead create complementary strategies,” said City of North Battleford Mayor Kelli Hawtin.

Inspector Tim Garland has been named Inspector in Charge of the Battlefords office.

With three decades of experience at the Ontario Provincial Police, Garland has served as a First Nations Policing liaison, worked general patrol duties, and served as a detective in Major Crimes.
