Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) has stepped up to support California in its fight against devastating wildfires, offering critical resources through the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre (CIFFC).

The agency has proposed deploying a Birddog aircraft, 3,000 feet of hose, and 10 experienced firefighters to assist in controlling the blazes.

“Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the wildfires in California,” said Tim McLeod, Saskatchewan’s Minister of Corrections, Policing, and Public Safety.

“In Saskatchewan, we know firsthand how devastating a fire can be, and offering our experienced members and equipment is exactly what being a good neighbour is all about.”

The SPSA is currently awaiting further instructions from the CIFFC regarding the next steps for deployment.

This commitment reflects Saskatchewan’s established practice of providing aid to other jurisdictions during emergencies, facilitated by mutual agreements and partnerships.

The SPSA, a Treasury Board Crown Corporation established in 2017, oversees wildfire management, emergency response, and public safety initiatives, including Sask911 and SaskAlert.

The offer underscores the importance of regional and international collaboration in managing large-scale natural disasters and highlights Saskatchewan’s readiness to contribute its expertise and resources to help those in need.
