A 41-year-old man from Saskatoon has been charged with several child exploitation offences following an investigation by the Saskatchewan Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit.The investigation began in March 2025 after the ICE Unit launched an online probe related to child exploitation.On May 27, investigators executed a search warrant at a home in Saskatoon. Electronic devices were seized and examined as part of the investigation..As a result, Steven Wesley Mernickle was charged with two counts of possession of child pornography and one count of making child pornography available.Mernickle appeared in Saskatoon Provincial Court the same day and was released under several conditions. He is scheduled to return to court on June 12 at 2 pm.The Saskatchewan ICE Unit is a provincial task force made up of members from the RCMP, Saskatoon Police Service, Regina Police Service, and Prince Albert Police Service. The unit is responsible for investigating internet-based crimes involving the sexual exploitation of children.
