An international student from India is facing an attempted murder charge after a car rammed into a group of people during an early morning street fight on Kramer Blvd.Police say officers were called to the 1400 block around 3:10 am CST on JSaturday for what was first reported as a crash with injuries. Investigators later learned an argument had broken out among several Indian students over a girl just before a vehicle accelerated into the crowd, slammed into a tree, and then sped away.Paramedics treated two victims. One suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital with a head injury..The other had minor wounds and was treated at the scene.While officers gathered evidence, a man walked back to the site and identified himself as the driver. He was arrested without incident.Kartik Deswal, 18, who arrived from India last year to study in Canada, is charged with attempted murder, two counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm, failing to remain at the scene of a crash causing harm, and dangerous operation of a vehicle.Deswal made his first court appearance on June 16 in Regina..A Facebook post from an English language academy in Panipat, Haryana, had congratulated Deswal on obtaining a Canadian study permit in October 2024.Police have not said what caused Saturday’s street fight. Investigators are asking anyone with video or information to call Regina Police Service or Crime Stoppers.None of the allegations has been proven in court.
