Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre, who lost his Carleton seat in Monday’s election, may well find a safe seat in Alberta — perhaps even Calgary. This from Crestview Strategy’s Ginny Roth, tonight’s guest on Hannaford.

“There have been some rumblings about Alberta, and he has deep roots in Calgary having grown up there.”

Nothing has been decided says Ms. Roth, but “Alberta generally has the advantage of being safer territory for Conservatives.”

Certainly, Poilievre is in no imminent danger of losing the leadership, says Roth. “He has a strong hold on membership, they are big fans of his and there’s quite a bit of unanimity both in the membership and the caucus, that he is the best chance we have of winning the next election.”

In this wide ranging discussion, Ms. Roth talks about the intra-party bad feeling that some say caused serious damage to the campaign, whether the campaign could have been saved and the peculiarities surrounding the charismatic Poilievre losing his own seat.

Some have suggested there was something odd about the above-average voter turnout in Carleton, and also the 90 competing candidates. But, she concludes, he was campaigning elsewhere and the Liberals did a good job of getting out their vote.

See the whole show tonight. Hannaford airs at seven o clock.
