A burial in Philadelphia turned into a scary incident when the platform above the grave at Green Mountain Cemetery suddenly gave way, plunging pallbearers and the casket into the open plot.
Witnesses say the pallbearers were carefully guiding the casket to its final resting place when the surface beneath them collapsed, triggering panic among mourners.
Several pallbearers sustained injuries to their legs, hands, and backs.
According to the deceased man’s stepdaughter, Marabel Rodriguez, the most severe injuries were to the son of the deceased, who was pinned under the casket and briefly lost consciousness with his face in the mud.
Although none of the wounds are expected to be life-threatening, the distressing scene left the family upset.
Rodriguez blames both Green Mountain Cemetery and Rodriguez Funeral Home for failing to ensure a safe environment, pointing to a platform that she describes as wobbly, unstable, and soaked with water.
She alleges the funeral was not properly managed, compounding an already painful day of mourning.
Family members say they are demanding accountability from those responsible and hope to prevent similar incidents in the future.
They also seek an apology and possible reimbursement for the chaos and injuries suffered.
