The Conservatives have released a new ad suggesting that Mark Carney is holding Canada "hostage to the Americans" by not expanding the country's energy sector.

Pierre Poilievre has repeatedly called out the Liberal leader for refusing to even entertain the possibility of repealing the anti-pipeline legislation known as Bill C-69.

"Why does Trump want a 4th Liberal term?" the narrator asks. "Because Mark Carney will continue the same Liberal policies that have made Canada weak. He'll keep oil in the ground, and keep Liberal laws that block mines, pipelines, and energy projects, keeping Canada hostage to the Americans."

The video includes Trump saying, "I think it’s easier to deal, actually, with a Liberal," as well as Carney saying "we do not plan to repeal Bill C-69" and vowing to ensure "oil reserves, proven reserves ... stay in the ground"

During a rally in Penticton, BC on Saturday, Poilievre slammed the Liberals for making Canada reliant on the Americans on a number of fronts, not least when it comes to energy.

"The western Canadian oil that goes to Quebec and Ontario has to travel through two American pipelines," he said. "If ever the trade war got serious enough, the Americans could cut us off from our own energy supply."

The Conservative leader accused the Liberals under Justin Trudeau of making Canada “helpless and economically vulnerable” by blocking pipelines, and said Carney is "100% against our energy sector" as well.
