OTTAWA — Conservative MP Jamil Jivani during the CBC’s federal election coverage tore into Ontario Premier Doug Ford for rubbing shoulders with the federal Liberals rather than doing his job.

Jivani won his seat in Bowmanville-Oshawa North after the sunday vote. He first became a Member of Parliament after a Durham by-election on March 4, 2024, following the resignation of former Tory leader Erin O'Toole.

Jivani was interviewed by the CBC shortly after he secured his seat, and much to the pundit’s surprise — and chagrin — the Tory MP ripped into the Progressive Conservative provincial leader.

“He’s trying to exercise his influence over other levels of government — and it’s not like this guy’s doing anything particularly well,” said Jivani.

When the reporter pointed out he previously worked for Ford, Jivani laughed and said, “Yeah, I’m speaking from experience.”

“He’s got his goons around him all the time,” he said.

“He has taken the provincial Conservative party and turned it into something hollow, unprincipled, something that doesn't solve problems.”

"He's glad-handing with Chrystia Freeland, having coffees and lattes with Mark Carney, and I'm sitting here saying we need to be fighting for change in something new and something different — not being a hype man to the Liberal party."
