While making her way back to the United States from a holiday in Ghana, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass was grilled by a Sky News reporter over her handling of the situation.

Rather than take responsibility, however, she stood in stunned silence.

"Do you owe citizens an apology for being absent while their homes were burning?" the reporter asked as Bass made her way out of the plane down the jet bridge.

When she failed to answer, he jumped to a different topic.

"Do you regret cutting the fire department budget by millions of dollars, madam mayor?"

Her silence prompted him to ask, "Have you nothing to say today?"

"Have you absolutely nothing to say to the citizens today?" he repeated. "Elon Musk says that you're utterly incompetent. Are you considering your position? Madam mayor, have you absolutely nothing to say to the citizens today who are dealing with this disaster? No apology for them?"

Without so much as a word, Bass and her staff made their way down the jet bridge, and exited via a restricted-access door.

The reporter's one-way conversation with Bass quickly went viral online, and prompted reaction from users.

"This is the most damning video of a politician being questioned during a disaster that I’ve ever seen," Robby Starbuck wrote. "This [Sky News] reporter just absolutely shredded the incompetent Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass. It’s truly a work of art."

His sentiments were shared by Elon Musk, who replied, "Incompetence kills."

Bass has since returned to LA, and provided an update on the situation Thursday morning.

"This is absolutely an unprecedented historic firestorm," she said, "but we are all hands on deck."
